Last Day Being a Work at Home Mom

Well, the title isn't quite true.

I'm not stopping my writing work and I am definitely not stopping being a mom. I will still work from home but I'll be doing less of the childcare from tomorrow.

As part of our big decision to emigrate, my husband left his job. He will be a full-time stay a home dad for at least a year. It means that I actually get to concentrate on work, rather than trying to juggle everything else that goes with my current day.

I love my kids and it will be a major change, but I'm looking forward to actually getting to work properly. It's going to be very different, although I won't have a private office like I did a few years ago. Instead, I'll have a section of the house (and later apartment) that is just going to be for me.

My husband has just text to say that leaving work today felt odd. He's always worked (except a brief period between uni courses) and this is the first time that he has made a conscious decision not to contribute financially to the house. It's also the first time I'll be contributing solely, but it doesn't bother me. I know how hard work it is looking after the children but I do understand what he means.

It's the next step to really make it clear that we're really doing this. Now it's time to get packed, get the house cleaned and repainted and then we can jump on our flights to pastures new.

  4. Exciting and nervous but wishing you and hubby the best on your new journey. I like your attitude to embrace change. My motto has always been, if you want to explore deeper oceans, you first have to leave site of the shore. Paddle away and best wishes!!

    1. There are a lot of mixed emotions right now, but I am mostly excited for this. I actually just want to do the move now and get there already. The waiting and the hassle of moving is getting to me right now.
