Many people are struggling with the use of computers due to
repetitive strain injury, which usually occurs due to the uses of the mouse or
the touchpad on a laptop base. However, there may be a way around that through
sensors tracking your eye to do everything that a mouse would usually do.
Rather than drag the pointer to a folder with the touchpad, you are able to
look right at the folder and automatically open it.
It will create a better form of game playing on the PC since more
people will be able to aim and fire better because they will not have to take
into account human error or a slight twitch in their arm. It also means a lot
of time is saved through flicking through document pages since the system will be
able to do it automatically once you have scrolled to the bottom of the page
with a simple look.
Everything will be done in a similar way to the way Microsoft’s
Kinect for the Xbox works. There will be infrared sensors placed in the
computer, which will track your eye movements. It will do it on a much smaller
scale than what the Kinect does – rather than tracking the larger movements of
your head or arm, it will track the smaller movements of your eyes. All it will
take is a glance or a slight movement on the screen and the computer will be
able to pick it up.
The sensors will work through the glint, angle and direction that
your eye is looking in; it works with 3D, the way the world seems to be going
in. However, that will not stop those who only have one working eye from using
it since the developers have found a way to make the sensors take that into
account. It can also work with those who wear glasses, so the movement can be
seen through the lenses and still pick up correctly, although more development
is going into those who have strong prescriptions.
It will be controlled specifically for you and follow a pattern of
what you are doing. For example, if you want to keep the text that you are
reading at the top of your screen, then the system will pick up on this and do
it for you automatically. If you like to highlight what you have read, again
the system will pick up on this and do it for you while you read. It also makes
the use of searching for the dictionary a lot easier. Stare at a word long enough
and you will see the definitely pop up automatically.
The sensors are easy to use and will make using the computer a lot
easier and take up much less time than having to use a mouse or touchpad to
search for everything on your computer. It will do all of the hard work for
you.
