It's really easy to plagiarize without meaning to. I mean really easy.
Chances are you've done it in the past without even thinking about it. You see, plagiarizing is more than just copying content word for word. It's copying the layout of the piece or using the exact same
tips. You may say the content in a completely different way, but you didn't write it yourself, did you?
This type of copying usually happens when we take inspiration from content that we find. When we look for ideas to write about or some imagery to create.
We'll read a blog post from a blogger we respect and think that it would be a great topic for us to cover. Instead of reblogging someone else's content, we want to write something ourselves.
That's great! This is the whole point of inspiration that I like to make when it comes to writing. The idea isn't something that can be copyrighted. After all, we have our own experiences and stories to tell within the same niche or topic.
What we shouldn't do is use the same headings, subheadings, layout, and even phrasing. It's so important to put your own voice to the content. Take a step back and find a way to make that idea unique.
I've had someone plagiarize my content in the past. I've had the typical scrapers but I've also had those who liked my idea and then use it to satisfy their own readers. They even linked to my piece to make it very clear that there was some copying going on. It made them look unoriginal and unimaginative.
Why will your readers stick with you? Why not go to the blogger who originally had the idea?
If you do want to take inspiration from a post, make sure it is just that. Don't copy the subheadings or layout. Take inspiration from the blog title or overall message in the piece. You can then add your own stories and personality into your writing and create something completely different.
