How to Make iPhone4S Cases

Most iPhone4S cases are extremely expensive but they are often needed to protect the phone from becoming damaged. Instead of buying your own, there are cases that you can make. These cases can be made in any color and you can add accessories, such as jewels, to them.

Find the Materials

You need to have something that you can make the case out of. Many will look at using duct tape and even milk cartons. The choice is completely up to you. One of the best materials to make a case from is leather. This is durable, versatile and will also offer some waterproof protection to the phone.

Get the Measurements Right

The first step in making your own case is to take the measurements. You need to make sure that you get these exact, otherwise it will render the case useless. Take the width, length and thickness of the phone for your measurements and always double check them.

Do not use the material directly. Start off by using the measurements on a piece of cardboard. This will become part of your new case. Make sure that it is the same size as your phone and wrap it in some tape. It can be any type of tape – this is just to keep the cardboard study. The best type of tape to use will be electrical or duct tape as this will offer more waterproofing too.

Cutting the Materials

When it comes to cutting the leather, you will need two pieces. They should both be slightly larger than the case – about an inch larger in both width and length to help counter the thickness of the case. Place the leather in some water to help drain the color. You will need to keep an eye on it so that you do not ruin the material. There is no set time for how long you have the leather in the water – it just depends on how thick your pieces are.

Mold to the Phone

Place the wet leather around the card. Because the leather is wet, it will be very easy to mold so this is the time to add the jewels or patterns to the material. Once you have finished decorating it, leave it to dry. This will usually take around 24 hours – it needs to be dry within 48 hours to avoid the chance for mold to grow in it.

You will need to sew the leather pieces together and leave the top open so you can slide your iPhone in and out. Leave some space at the end of the leather if you want to cut a pattern in the iPhone4S cases.
